Before meeting Nick and Stephanie, I first got a call from Stephanie’s mom inquiring about their wedding date.  When we started talking, she said one of her daughters only requests in planning her wedding was to have me as her photographer. It’s always nice to hear that and I was so happy to be able to photograph their wedding. Stephanie and Nick’s fun Friday night wedding was tucked away at a golf course in West Linn and it made for an amazing backdrop. Right after the ceremony, we had a little time to do some sunset photos and the lighting was just perfect.

I am so happy for you two. Thanks for letting me capture it!

Often I feel that couples get caught up in details like the color of the napkins, or what if the food gets cold, or making sure mom is having a good time… Yet with Erica and Patrick, it was no worries. Just a day to celebrate their love. I won’t put their age ;-) but they are not the age of most of my couples and this is their first time ever getting married. I think when you get a little older, the other things I mentioned don’t really matter as much. So they had a small ceremony at a community center on Muir Beach and I was so happy to capture it.

A good friend of theirs, Jeff, (also my wife’s cousin) is incredibly musically talented. His daughter Kushi, also amazingly talented, sang during the ceremony while Jeff played the guitar. Originally it was supposed to be sang by Erica but she came down with something and she could barely speak. The song was “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michelson.  Listen to it below and definitely close your eyes and crank the speakers.

I wanted to start out with something the Father of the Groom said for his speech. This is completely from memory and I paraphrased so I apologize in advance if I don’t say it quite right.

“When Grant was 8, he got into a terrible accident–a tractor rolled over him. He was bruised, broke some ribs and his arm was crushed. He had a cast on for months. When I went to take him to go get his cast off, the doctor took a final X-ray and said, ‘The good news is his arm is not broken and the bad news is we found a spot of cancer.’ He shows me the X-ray and you see a nickel size white spot.  So they go to cut off the cast and a rock falls out. No cancer. Just a rock that was wedged between his arm and the cast.  I thought the x-ray was cool so I asked the doc if I take it home along with the rock.

Sometime later I see Grant watching TV and chewing on something. I asked him what it was and he swallows it. So I took him to the hospital and they did an X-ray.  The doctor shows us this amazing image of Grant’s chest abdomen and there you see, in the pit of his stomach, is a lead bullet.  I thought that was pretty cool so I kept that X-ray too. But I left the bullet.

Now…you two are the ones who have to take the bullets for each other. ”

I thought that was one of the funniest and greatest toasts I’ve heard. It summed up how strong of a connection Grant and Angela have and the bond they have with their family.

Toast to you guys!

Oh my goodness....this is beautiful. Love that there were framed x-rays at their wedding! You did a really nice job capturing their day! I was very drawn into the flowers in focus with them praying at the alter out of focus! (07.03.2010 03:20am)

I was thrilled to be able to see these beautiful pictures. I was very regretfully sick and couldn't come, but these made me feel like I was there. Congratulations to you both! (07.04.2010 04:54pm)

Daniel - very inspirational imagery...love each and every single one. I love your compositions and angles that you take in each photo. Love the post processing... did you shoot most of the wedding without flash? The reception has red walls and I just cannot tell if you are using flash or available light. (07.10.2010 04:14pm)

I'm going to form my own job since there aren't any good jobs ?n existence. Can any person provide any recommendations or web sites about how to find government grant money to start with my personal business? I have been previously looking via the internet but almost every web site requires for money and I have already been told by the unemployment office to stay away from the websites that want cash for grant info because they are scam. I would be sincerely thankful for any guidance. (11.11.2010 01:17pm)
